sneezing

Maybe it would have been a better idea to ask students: Please refrain from sneezing in class.

Via News Channel 9 abc:

HARLINGEN, Texas (KGBT) — A college syllabus went viral online, outraging some University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) students because of the words “Please refrain from saying, ‘God bless you.'”

From freshman to senior year, college students are handed syllabuses detailing expectations for courses.

“Please refrain from saying, ‘God bless you’ during the classes and exams,” the syllabus states.

Pictures of the college course’s syllabus hit social media soon after the first day of class….

KGBT reached out to UTRGV officials who declined an on-camera interview, but did release the following statement: “The professor’s syllabus sought to identify examples of potentially disruptive behavior the professor believed could hinder the classroom learning environment, including use of cellphones. The intent was not to limit the religious freedoms of UTRGV students, but to avoid unsolicited comments that might distract others.”

Uh. Right.

Whatever…

American Association of University Professors says that mission of universities is to educate students in a manner that moves society forward. Don’t agree, but wonder how AAUP thinks that this fits. (U. of Iowa just hired a businessman to be its President. Much hankie anxiety by profs.)

Can students wish one a Merry Christmas at semester’s_ end? Or does that require a trigger warning?

Maybe they should take a suggestion from Jerry Seinfeld and use instead:
    “You’re sooo good lookin’!”
